FC Dallas closed the gap on MLS Western Conference leaders the Los Angeles Galaxy as they edged the New England Revolution 1-0 at home. After the Galaxy failed to win 24 hours earlier, the Texan outfit took advantage and moved within five points as Marvin Chavez made the difference with a 69th-minute strike.
The Philadelphia Union, leaders in the Eastern Conference, could only draw 1-1 at the Colorado Rapids on the road. Conor Casey's penalty had put the Rapids a goal up in the 62nd minute but the Union swiftly levelled through Danny Mwanga's goal four minutes later. However, they could not find a winner and have Red Bull New York chasing them down at the top.
New York failed to capitalise fully though as they did not win either, drawing 1-1 at home to the Columbus Crew. Mehdi Ballouchy had put them ahead in the ninth minute and they seemed to be cruising to victory only for Rich Balchan to equalise in added time.
Elsewhere, Chivas USA beat the Portland Timbers 1-0 at home, Real Salt Lake beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 and the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Houston Dynamo 2-0.
There were goalless draws between the Chicago Fire and the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC and Sporting Kansas City.
