Pohang Steelers missed the chance to move above Jeonbuk Motors at the top of the K-League after being held to a goalless draw at Daejeon Citizen.
Brazilian striker Mota headed against the post in the second-half, the closest the three-time continental champions came to breaking the deadlock.
"Going top is not as important as improving our overall sharpness and form," said Pohang coach Hwang Sun-Hong after the game. "It was a frustrating game but we came up against determined opponents today."
Ulsan Horang collected a welcome 3-2 win at home to fellow strugglers Seongnam Chunma.
Kim Shin-Wook opened the scoring after 13 minutes, only for Cho Dong-Keun to level proceedings 13 minutes later.
Seol Ki-Hyeon quickly restored Ulsan's lead but there was still time for Cho to get his and Seongnam's second before the break. Kwak Tae-Hwi grabbed the winner for Ulsan with ten minutes remaining.
In the day's other fixture, Incheon United won 1-0 at Gwangju thanks to a second-half strike from Han Kyo-Won.
