Velez Sarsfield extended their lead at the top of the Clausura standings to two points with a 4-0 win away to Apertura champions Estudiantes in La Plata.
Velez, who finished two points behind Estudiantes in the opening championship, gained a measure of revenge as goals from Augusto Fernandez and Maxi Moralez gave them a 2-0 half-time lead.
Estudiantes' hopes were further diminished by the dismissal of Rodrigo Brana on the hour mark, and two minutes later Moralez scored his second and his team's third from the penalty spot before substitute David Ramirez wrapped it up two minutes from time.
Buenos Aires giants River Plate are two points behind Velez, having climbed above Godoy Cruz into second with a 1-0 win over Racing Club.
Mariano Pavone scored the only goal for River from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, and they secured the three points despite the dismissal of Juan Manuel Diaz on the stroke of half-time.
Godoy Cruz dropped to third with a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal. Lisandro Lopez and Adrian Gonzalez put the visitors in control but Alvaro Navarro pulled one back for the hosts in the 25th minute. Arsenal wrapped up just their third win of the Clausura campaign with a second-half double from Mauro Obolo.
Argentinos Juniors are fourth after a goalless draw at All Boys while San Lorenzo moved up to sixth with a 3-0 win at home to Huracan.
The sending-off of Facundo Quiroga proved the catalyst for Huracan's defeat as Nestor Ortigoza scored from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, with Juan Salgueiro and Pablo Velazquez sealing the points.
