Hertha back among the big boys
Hertha Berlin returned to the German first division on Monday at the first time of asking when a 1-0 win over Duisburg guaranteed promotion.
Hertha, coached by former Germany international Markus Babbel, are seven points ahead of second-placed Augsburg and 12 in front of Bochum in third with just three games left. The top two teams are assured of automatic promotion.
Adrian Ramos fired in the only goal of the game on 27 minutes. Hertha, who came within one win of earning a UEFA Champions League place two years ago, finished bottom of the Bundesliga last season.
"We are extremely happy. It is not understood that you go up straight after going down but we kept calm and worked hard. It was a hard year but our hard work paid off," said sporting director Michael Preetz.
Hertha will be hoping to win the title next weekend when they entertain 1860 Munich.
