Roma's Mexes has knee operation
France and Roma centre-back Philippe Mexes underwent a successful operation on his torn cruciate knee ligament today, Ansa news agency reported.
The operation lasted about half an hour and was said to have been "perfectly successful" with the 29-year-old due to remain in hospital for two to three days.
The 29-year-old looks set to miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury he sustained during Sunday's 2-0 Serie A defeat to Juventus.
A Roma statement read: "Philippe Mexes underwent tests which have revealed a lesion in his anterior cross ligament in his left knee.
"The player will need to undergo surgery and the time of recovery will be evaluated in the coming days."
Vincenzo Montella's Roma are chasing a top-four finish in Serie A.
They are currently sixth in the standings, six points behind Udinese, who hold the last UEFA Champions League qualifying spot with seven rounds remaining.
