Galatasaray sack Hagi
Romanian football great Gheorghe Hagi has been sacked as coach of Galatasaray after just five months, the Turkish club said today.
"For his efforts and work, we thank Gheorghe Hagi, who wrote his name with pride on the most important pages of Galatasaray's history," the club said in a statement.
Hagi, who won the UEFA Cup as a player with Galatasaray in 2000 and coached the team in 2004-05, replaced his Dutch predecessor Frank Rijkaard last October.
The Istanbul club are struggling in 11th place in the league, 27 points behind leaders and great rivals Fenerbahce.
Hagi, 46, played 125 times with the Romanian national team and took part in three FIFA World Cups™ as a player. He was a midfielder for Galatasaray between 1996 and 2001.
