Monaco hauled themselves out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone with a surprise win at resurgent Bordeaux. Adriano scored the only goal of the game in the first half as the hosts came up short in their hunt for a third straight victory.
It was a real smash-and-grab effort from Monaco who barely threatened before or after taking the lead. The goal came in the 21st minute as an unmarked Adriano got on the end of Gregory Lacombe's corner and gave Cedric Carrasso no chance with his close-range header.
Bordeaux came agonisingly close to a leveller ten minutes before the break as Benoit Tremoulinas stormed into the box after neat interplay with Wendel, then sent his shot against the post with Stephane Ruffier beaten.
Bordeaux frustrations continue
After the break Bordeaux dominated possession but lacked the cutting edge to snatch an equaliser. Ten minutes after the restart Jaroslav Plasil threw himself at Tremolinas' cross but sent his header just wide of the post.
Alou Diarra tried his luck from distance on the hour mark but, though his strike was well hit, it caused few problems for Ruffier. Six minutes later Anthony Modeste got between two defenders to get on the end of Plasil's free-kick but could not find the target.
Bordeaux's last chance of note came in the 71st minute when Wendel's direct free-kick from 25 yards shaved the right-hand post of Ruffier's goal on its way behind. Monaco clung on and Bordeaux were left to rue their inability to turn possession into genuine scoring opportunities.
