Serie A side Palermo on Monday appointed Serse Cosmi as their first team coach after the sacking of Delio Rossi the morning after a 7-0 drubbing by Udinese.

Rossi had helped qualify the Sicilian side for the UEFA Europa League this season, but the writing was on the wall immediately after Sunday's result when Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini let loose on the coach.

"(Delio) Rossi has a one per cent chance of staying with Palermo," Zamparini told reporters.

Rossi was promptly sacked on Monday, with Cosmi stepping in until the end of the season. Cosmi, 52, has previously worked as coach of Perugia (2002-04) and Udinese (2005-06).
