Leverkusen fire three past Frankfurt
Bayer Leverkusen put the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund by winning 3-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Leverkusen grabbed the lead after just nine minutes from a set-piece as Arturo Vidal's ball was headed on by Sami Hyypia to Rolfes, who turned and struck home a left-foot volley from four yards inside the left post.
After 20 minutes of Leverkusen dominance, Frankfurt had a chance in the 26th minute but Leverkusen goalkeeper Rene Adler made a fine save on a shot by Caio.
But the visitors doubled the lead after 32 minutes with Frankfurt's Pirmin Schwegler losing a ball in midfield before Vidal crossed to Renato Augusto, who struck back to the far left corner.
Leverkusen missed two chances to have a three-goal advantage before the break with Gonzalo Castro's looped effort going over Frankfurt goalkeeper Oka Nikolov and the goal, and Hyypia's header hitting the post before ending up in the arms of Nikolov. Frankfurt were close to pulling a goal back in the 57th but Theofanis Gekas' header went just over the bar.
Leverkusen pushed forward trying to finish off the hosts but Nikolov just about cleared Hyypia's header off the line in the 59th minute. And the ensuing corner resulted in Sebastian Jung having to clear Rolfes' header off the line as well.
Frankfurt almost halved the deficit in the 81st minute but Adler deflected Alexander Meier's header off the crossbar. With six minutes left, the visitors finally made it 3-0 with some wonderful passing between Balitsch, Renato Augusto and Stefan Kiessling, with Balitsch looping over Nikolov to finish it off.
