Bordeaux players eased the pressure on coach Jean Tigana by posting a workmanlike 2-0 victory over lacklustre Nice in today's Ligue 1 encounter at Stade Chaban Delmas.

Le Girondins were without a win in six league games heading into today's encounter and were also dumped out of the Coupe de France by unfancied Angers last weekend, and Tigana came into the game amid increasing speculation over his future. But goals from Ludovic Sane and Anthony Modeste either side of the break lifted the gloom as Bordeaux climbed to eighth in the standings.

Nice, meanwhile, remain in trouble at the wrong end of the table and are flirting dangerously with the relegation zone after their eighth defeat of the season.

Nice went close early on when Daniel Ljuboja fired into the arms of Cedric Carrasso after 10 minutes, but from that point on it was one-way traffic for Bordeaux. Just a minute later the hosts went close when Cheick Diabate's clever backheel flashed just wide of the upright.

Sane settles Bordeaux
The breakthrough arrived after 38 minutes when Jaroslav Plasil's corner from the left side was met with a bullet header by Sane at the near post which flashed beyond the helpless David Ospina. The lead was almost doubled two minutes later when Fahid Ben Kalfallah let fly with a strike from long distance but Ospina parried the ball to safety.

Modeste headed just wide for the hosts after 53 minutes but Bordeaux's utter dominance did pay off four minutes later when Fernando Menegazzo fed Modeste again and this time he made no mistake when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Bordeaux were happy to ease off the throttle in what time remained, with the visitors offering nothing going forward, but home skipper Alou Diarra did almost add to the scoring when his powerful shot drew a smart save from Ospina.
