McClaren: Dortmund will win the title
Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren labelled Borussia Dortmund as Bundesliga champions elect after his side were beaten 3-0 by the league leaders yesterday.
Dortmund still have a long way to go, but McClaren is convinced they will be crowned as the 2010-11 champions after witnessing them close up at the VW-Arena. "Today, we played against the upcoming champions," he said. "I said that in the first half of the season already. Dortmund were our strongest opponents all season."
Nevertheless, Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is not accepting the congratulations just yet. His side may be 11 points clear at the top of the table, but there are still 14 games to be played and, even if they are playing like champions, Klopp will wait until it is mathematically certain before celebrating.
"I respect him a lot and of course I prefer to hear such things than for him to say that we are rubbish," he said. "But if Mr McClaren says that we will be the German champions, then that does not make it any more likely."
Klopp was more satisfied with the way his players bounced back from the disappointment of only drawing 1-1 with Stuttgart last weekend. "I am proud of them," he said. "My lads were prepared to go in for the important tackles for the whole 90 minutes."
