Feyenoord release Beenhakker
Feyenoord have relieved technical director Leo Beenhakker of his duties following his criticism of the Eredivisie strugglers last week.
The former Netherlands and Real Madrid boss hit out at the Rotterdam club before last Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Ajax, after it was revealed he would not be offered a new deal when his current contract expires at the end of the season.
However, his outburst has not gone down well with the Feyenoord management, who confirmed Beenhakker has been asked to stand down. "We are sitting down with the club during a very turbulent time in which blind faith and full respect towards each other are crucial," general manager Erik Gudde told the club's official website.
"With all the comments Leo Beenhakker has made in recent days, it is clear this no longer exists. In the interest of the club, we told him that we recommend he stops work immediately."
Feyenoord have had a disappointing season to date, with the club lying 14th in the Eredivisie - just four points above the bottom three.
