Defender Sebastien Puygrenier has called on his team-mates to help new coach Laurent Banide turn around Monaco's "disgraceful" season.

Banide replaced Guy Lacombe in the hotseat after Saturday's shock Coupe de France exit to amateur side Chambery, and takes over with the Monegasques also just one place outside the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

"Everything happened very quickly," Puygrenier told L'Equipe. "We weren't really expecting it." He has been impressed by Banide since his arrival on Monday, and said: "He talks well and he knows why he is there - to rescue the club, put us back on the right track and restore our confidence. He has brought new ideas with him. Now it is a case of putting those into practice on the pitch.

"I still maintain that we have quality in the squad and there is no reason why we cannot do well in the second half of the season. Everyone must work hard, nobody can hide away, and then we can get out of this."
