Fowler double lifts Perth off bottom
Robbie Fowler's second-half double earned Perth Glory a 4-2 win over high-flying Adelaide United that lifted them off the bottom of the A-League.
The Glory had slumped to the foot of the table following a run of just one win in 16 matches, and looked like they may throw away more points after twice conceding the lead.
Jamie Coyne's sixth-minute opener was cancelled out by Joe Keenan after 22 minutes, although Perth led into the break after veteran Mile Sterjovski beat the offside trap before rounding Eugene Galekovic to tap into an empty net. However, the Glory's woes looked poised to continue when second-placed United equalised immediately after the interval, through Sergio van Dijk.
But Fowler fired the hosts back ahead on 66 minutes, before sealing the game ten minutes later from the penalty spot, following an incident which saw Robert Cornthwaite sent off.
Adelaide's defeat was good news for the third-placed Central Coast Mariners, after they had earlier moved four points behind them with a 1-0 win over the North Queensland Fury.
Adam Kwasnik scored the game's only goal on 28 minutes to send the Fury bottom.
