Renato Augusto scored twice in the second half to help Bayer Leverkusen to a 4-2 away victory over Hamburg and jump into second place in the Bundesliga.
After Sidney Sam gave Bayer the lead in the 30th minute, Arturo Vidal levelled the game with an own goal after 48 minutes but pushed Bayer back ahead 2-1 with his goal in the 61st minute.
Augusto made it 3-1 after 66 minutes and doubled his tally in the 78th minute for a 4-1 lead. Eljero Elia pulled a goal back a minute later, but there was no way back for the hosts.
Bayer increased their Bundesliga undefeated streak to seven games with just one loss in their past 14 games for 32 points and second place - eight points behind Borussia Dortmund.
Mainz have 30 points and can reclaim second place with a victory over Schalke tomorrow. Hamburg have collected just two wins in their past eight games and have 21 points for ninth place.
Hamburg were the better side in the early going with Jonathan Pitroipa hitting just over the bar in the first minute and Ruud van Nistelrooy hitting the side netting at the quarter-hour mark.
Hamburg goalkeeper Frank Rost could not stop the Bayer attack after 30 minutes as Augusto's ball to the left side found Sam, who beat Rost to the far-right post from a tight angle for his sixth goal of the season.
Vidal tied the game three minutes after the break with an own goal as Ze Roberto's corner from the left side went off the Chilean international's right knee and off the right post and in.
Vidal scored again but made good for his own goal after 61 minutes as Hamburg could not clear ball and Vidal came flying through to head home and make it 2-1. Augusto increased the gap to 3-1 five minutes later, looping the ball over Rost and in from the right side.
And Augusto increased the advantage to 4-1 in the 78th minute as Rost deflected the Brazilian's shot into his own goal. Hamburg pulled a goal back just a minute later with Jose Paolo Guerrero's long blast going off the right post and Elia poked home to make it 4-2.
