Liverpool secured top spot in Group K of the UEFA Europa League with a 1-1 draw against Steaua Bucharest in Romania despite a terrible mistake from goalkeeper Jose Reina.

Milan Jovanovic's first-half header was cancelled out when the Reds captain allowed Eder Bonfim's effort to escape his grasp and creep over the line.

The point would have been enough to put the visitors through, but the 3-3 draw between FC Utrecht and Napoli means they cannot be caught at the top of the table. That draw saw the Italians fight back from 3-1 down as Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani claimed a hat-trick.

CSKA Moscow secured top spot in Group F with a dominant win over Swiss second-tier side Lausanne Sports. Tomas Necid bookended the scoring for Leonid Slutsky's men and Sekou Oliseh, Zoran Tosic and Alan Dzagoev also found the net before substitute Abdul Carrupt's late consolation.

Paris St Germain secured their place in the last 32 after beating erstwhile Group J leaders Sevilla 4-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Parc des Princes. PSG stormed into an early 2-0 lead through goals from Mathieu Bodmer and the dangerous Guillaume Hoarau, but Sevilla pegged the home side back with a quickfire brace from Frederic Kanoute. However, PSG restored their lead just before half-time with a fine strike from Nene, and Hoarau ensured the points would be staying in the French capital with his second goal in the 47th minute.

Borussia Dortmund kept their hopes of progressing alive as they beat Karpaty Lviv 3-0, Shinji Kawaga, Mats Hummels and Robert Lewandowski getting the goals.

Falcao scored a hat-trick, including two in the last five minutes, as Porto ended Rapid Vienna's hopes of progressing from Group L with a 3-1 win at Ernst Happel Stadion. Christopher Trimmel had opened the scoring for the Austrians.

Besiktas secured their passage through with a 2-1 win over CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria in the group's other game. Tomas Zapotocny and Filip Holosko put the visitors in control before Cillian Sheridan pulled a goal back.

In the late game in Group F Sparta Prague claimed the point they needed with a 2-2 draw at ten-man Palermo to book their place in the knockout stages. Nicola Rigoni put the hosts ahead after 24 minutes, but the key moment came five minutes after the break when Dorin Goian fouled Bony Wilfred in the box, picking up his second yellow card and allowing Jiri Kladrubsky to level. Mauricio Pinilla briefly put the home side back in front with a 59th-minute penalty, but Juraj Kucka's header four minutes later put Sparta through.

Giuseppe Rossi struck twice and set up a third as Villarreal progressed through to the knockout stages from Group D with a deserved 3-0 victory over in-form Dinamo Zagreb at El Madrigal while PAOK Salonika need just a point from their final fixture to advance after a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge.

BATE Borisov were thrashed 4-1 by managerless Dynamo Kiev as the Ukrainian side moved above their hosts to go top of Group E. Ognjen Vukojevic got the ball rolling for the visitors and Andriy Yarmolenko doubled the lead two minutes from half-time, while Oleg Gusev and Artem Milevskiy added to the tally after the interval. Pavel Nekhaychik hit back late on. The other game in the group saw FC Sheriff and AZ Alkmaar play out a 1-1 draw.
