PSV Eindhoven coach Fred Rutten applauded his players' second-half performance after seeing his side claim a place in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League with a come-from-behind victory at Sampdoria.

The Eredivisie club had found themselves trailing to a Giampaolo Pazzini header shortly before the interval, but Ola Toivonen struck twice in the second half - including a last-minute winner - to send PSV through and end Sampdoria's challenge in the competition.

We were deserved winners in the end. Now we have the advantage in the group and we should keep it.

PSV sit three points clear at the top of Group I and a draw in their final match against Metalist Kharkiv in two weeks would see them finish ahead of their rivals.

And Rutten believes that will be the case if they can produce another display like they did against Samp after the interval.

"In the first half, Sampdoria had us on the back foot with their great strength," he said. "We found it very difficult to play football, we were sloppy with our passing - especially early on - and we found it tough.

"But after the break we became more physical. Sampdoria could not keep the pace going and we began to play our game. We were deserved winners in the end. Now we have the advantage in the group and we should keep it."
