Estudiantes went five points clear of second-placed Velez Sarsfield at the top of the Apertura with a 2-1 win away to Independiente on Sunday.
Juan Pereyra capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put Estudiantes ahead after 11 minutes, but Nicolas Martinez put the home side back on level terms a minute into the second half. Gaston Fernandez pinched the winning goal after 85 minutes, with a superb looping header, and Enzo Perez's red card five minutes later did not prove costly.
Adalberto Roman grabbed the only goal of the game as River Plate beat Olimpo 1-0, while a single goal also settled the clash between Newell's Old Boys and Boca Juniors. Substitute Luis Rodriguez scored in the 85th minute to secure the points for Newell's.
