Ajax this afternoon confirmed they have accepted Suarez's seven-match suspension from the KNVB.

Suarez had been offered a seven-match ban by the Dutch FA after apparently biting an opponent during Saturday's match against PSV Eindhoven.

The Uruguayan international had already been given a two-match suspension by his club having been caught on camera biting Otman Bakkal in the goalless draw.

It means Suarez will not be available for domestic action until they face De Graafschap on 4 February, with the ban ruling him out of six Eredivisie matches and the KNVB Beker clash with AZ Alkmaar. The striker can, however, play against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League in two weeks.

The seven-match suspension incorporates the two matches - against VV Venlo and NEC Nijmegen - Suarez had already been banned for by Ajax, with the Uruguayan also made to pay a fine by the club which will be donated to charity.

Suarez accepted Ajax's ban yesterday, but is now facing a lengthier spell on the sidelines after the KNVB's disciplinary committee decided to come down hard on the player for what they deemed to be a "violent act".
