Eleven-time Qatar league champions Al Sadd were frustrated to a 1-1 draw with Al Wakra at the end of the first round of group A of this year's Qatar Stars Cup, played on Saturday.
Ghanaian striker Agyemang Opoku gave Al Sadd the lead after only two minutes before Al Wakra leveled the scores on 68 minutes with a penalty by Moroccan midfielder Adil Ramzi, who then went on to miss a second penalty after 90 minutes.
In another match on Saturday, Qatar SC hammered Al Siliya 5-2 in Group B of the competition. Moroccan midfielder Youssef Safri handed Qatar SC the lead after 27 minutes, before Abdullah Al Kawari made it 2-0 on 33 minutes. Al Siliya pulled a goal back through Ali Mejbel in the last minute of the first half.
Qatar SC scored their third goal through Fadhel Omar on 61 minutes just four minutes before he scored his second goal, while he completed his hat-trick on 77 minutes, just six minutes before Ali Mejbel scored Al Siliya's second goal from the penalty spot.
