Papiss Demba Cisse scored the only goal of the match in injury time to give Freiburg a hard-earned 1-0 win at Hoffenheim.
Cisse struck the only goal of the game a minute into stoppage time for his tenth Bundesliga goal of the season. The victory today is Freiburg's fourth in the last six games, moving them into fourth place on the Bundesliga table with 21 points. Hoffenheim have won just once in the last four games, remain in seventh place on 18 points.
The first chance of the game came after five minutes as Freiburg keeper Oliver Baumann made a fine save from Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson's low shot. The visitors went close five minutes later but Jan Rosenthal headed just wide from 12 yards after a Julian Schuster cross. Sigurdsson continued to give the Freiburg defence problems and hammered a 16-yard shot off the crossbar in the 21st minute. Only seconds later, Cisse blasted over the bar from long range for the visitors. The remainder of the first half was up-tempo, though it lacked any notable chances.
After the break, Hoffenheim had a fine counter attack in the 52nd minute but Demba Ba was just a half-step too slow to connect with Peniel Mlapa's cross from the right side. Hoffenheim keeper Daniel Haas was forced to make a strong save on a header by Cisse in the 76th minute. His counterpart Baumann just got his hand on a ball after a counter attack by the Senegal international. Cedric Makiadi somehow shot over the crossbar from six yards out with six minutes to play for Freiburg.
Freiburg grabbed the winner a minute into stoppage time with Cisse collecting a pass by Stefan Reisinger, turning and then beating Haas.
