Apertura leaders Estudiantes suffered only their second defeat of the season yesterday, going down 2-1 at ten-man Tigre.

Diego Morales put the mid-table hosts ahead midway through the first half but their hopes suffered a double setback at the start of the second half with Roman Martinez sent off a minute after the restart and Leandro Benitez equalising four minutes later.

However, Tigre made light of their numerical disadvantage and netted a 73th-minute winner through Denis Straqualursi to climb to 12th.

The result left Estudiantes only three points ahead of second-placed Velez Sarsfield, who can move level on 30 points if they beat Lanus today.

In yesterday's other match, third-placed Arsenal Sarandi and eighth-placed All Boys had to settle for a point apiece after a goalless draw.
