Independiente advanced to the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals on away goals after a 0-0 home draw against Tolima.

Thursday night's stalemate was enough for the Argentinian giants to progress thanks to their 2-2 first-leg result in Colombia. Independiente had more possession in the first half but Tolima created the better chances, Rodrigo Marangoni's free-kick well saved by goalkeeper Hilario Navarro and a Yesid Martinez goal ruled out for handball.

The visitors upped the tempo after the break and went close to grabbing the goal they needed, but could find no way past Navarro. The Argentinians will play defending champions Liga de Quito of Ecuador in the last four.

All-Brazilian tie
In an all-Brazilian quarter-finals duel, Goias won 1-0 at Avai to triumph 3-2 on aggregate. The result will come as welcome relief for Campeonato strugglers Goias, who were playing under the guidance of new coach Artur Neto for the first time.

Rafael Moura bagged the game's only goal from Felipe's assist just before half-time. Avai went close to equalising through Emerson and Diogo Orlando after the interval before Goias keeper Harlei came to his team's rescue with a couple of fine saves.

Goias striker Rafael Moura said: "We received a lot of criticism, some of which was deserved. We had to win tonight for our honour."

Harlei immediately turned his attention back to the domestic relegation battle, saying: "We had a tough year, full of troubles. But the group is strong and will fight until the end in the Brasileiro. We have four more rounds to recover."

Goias will face another Brazilian team, Palmeiras, in the Copa semi-finals.
