PSV Eindhoven moved to the brink of qualifying for the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League following a comfortable 3-0 home win over pointless Debrecen on Thursday.

Goals from skipper Ibrahim Affelay, Jonathan Reis and substitute Stijn Wuytens completed a victory which could have been even more emphatic only for the woodwork to twice deny Ola Toivonen and Debrecen-born Balasz Dzsudzsak.

PSV's success was their third in a row in Group I and moved them three points clear of second-placed Metalist Kharkiv, who drew 0-0 at Sampdoria. Defeat for Debrecen, who have now conceded 11 goals in four games, means they cannot reach the knockout phase with two games remaining.

PSV immediately set about their task with Reis' early 20-yard shot blocked by Dejan Simac before Toivonen drew the first save, albeit a comfortable one, after 14 minutes. The hosts continued to apply the pressure and were rewarded with a 20th-minute opener scored by their skipper Affelay.

Orlando Engelaar supplied the pass from the right for the Netherlands international to drill in a low shot from just outside the area. The PSV onslaught continued after the goal as away goalkeeper Mindaugas Malinauskas found a long-range Engelaar effort too hot to handle, with Toivonen then shooting over seconds later.

Debrecen threatened for the first time after 37 minutes when Peter Czvitkovics missed right from 12 yards. It was a fleeting moment of worry for PSV, who almost immediately went down the other end to score, only for Toivonen's shot from inside the area to crash off the frame of the goal. Toivonen would have a role in his side's second moments later, however, by playing in Reis, who made no mistake with a low shot from 12 yards to send his side into the break 2-0 up.

Debrecen showed more purpose after the re-start with Czvitkovics flashing a shot off-target before Adam Bodi forced Andreas Isaksson into a punched clearance. Zsolt Laczko then should have got the Hungarian side's opener when he pulled a shot wide from 12 yards on 55 minutes.

PSV steadied after Debrecen's good ten-minute spell with Jeremain Lens heading over before Dzsudzsak was denied a goal against his former club by the woodwork. Toivonen shot against a post for the second time six minutes from the end before Dzsudzsak set up substitute Wuytens to add gloss to the scoreline with a neat lobbed finish.
