Elliott boost for Phoenix
Elliott, 36, who has been without a club since leaving Major League Soccer club San Jose Earthquakes after the 2009 season, has signed as an injury replacement player for Argentine Oscar Roberto Cornejo. Former Fulham player Elliott was one of the stars for the unbeaten All Whites at this year's 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
"It's a short little stint but it's exciting to be back and part of what's going on at the Phoenix," said Elliott, who has played 68 internationals for New Zealand. "I'm a player with a bit of experience who can hopefully accentuate what's already in the squad."
Elliott has spent much of his professional career in the MLS, playing for Los Angeles Galaxy, Columbus Crew and San Jose along with two seasons with English Premier League club Fulham. Pending an international transfer clearance, Elliott will be eligible to make his debut for the Phoenix against Brisbane Roar in Wellington on Wednesday.
