Wolfsburg picked up a crucial victory at home to Stuttgart to boost their bid to move back up the Bundesliga table. Simon Kjaer opened the scoring in the sixth minute and Edin Dzeko sealed Wolfsburg's win with 14 minutes to play.
Wolfsburg ended a three-game winless streak to move to 13 points and into 12th place. Stuttgart suffered their first loss under coach Jens Keller and remain on seven points and 16th place.
The hosts did not waste much time to take the lead from a set piece in the sixth minute. Diego's corner from the right side went to Kjaer, whose header blasted off the lower half of the cross bar and over the goal line.
The Wolfsburg attack was dominant and nearly doubled the advantage after 24 minutes but Cristian Molinaro saved Andrea Barzagli's attempt on the goal line. Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich kept his team's deficit to just one two minutes later, deflecting Grafite's shot just off the post.
The guests did not have many chances though Martin Harnik's attempt in the 32nd minute was stopped by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz. But Wolfsburg remained the dominant side with a number of chances.
Ashkan Dejagah was just wide in the 52nd minute, Grafite's dangerous header was held by Ulreich two minutes later before Dzeko's header went wide after 72 minutes.
Wolfsburg finally finished off Stuttgart in the 76th minute following another set piece, with Dzeko heading home Diego's corner from the left side to make it 2-0.
