Real Sociedad gave themselves breathing space at the bottom of Spain's Primera Division as they claimed a comfortable victory over fellow strugglers Deportivo la Coruna at Estadio Anoeta.

Joseba Llorente set the home side on their way as he opened the scoring in the 17th minute before second-half strikes from Antoine Griezmann and Imanol Agirretxe sealed the win.

The home side were always in control and opened brightly as Diego Rivas saw his effort from distance saved by Daniel Aranzubia in the Deportivo goal. And they were ahead a matter of minutes later as Alberto De la Bella whipped a cross into the box saw Llorente head home from close range for the perfect start.

Yves Desmarets had a speculative effort for Deportivo as the visitors struggled to create anything against a well-marshalled Sociedad backline, while De la Bella was off target with the other end.

Depor had a great chance to level matters early in the second half but Riki's point-blank header was somehow tipped over by Claudio Bravo. And that miss proved costly as Xabi Prieto swung in a fantastic cross from the right wing and Griezmann stooped to head home and doubled Sociedad's advantage.

Griezmann should have grabbed his second soon after as he dragged his effort wide of the goal, but the win was sealed with just four minutes remaining. Jeffrey Sarpong went surging down the left flank and pulled the ball back for Agirretxe to coolly slot home to leave Deportivo 19th in the table and still winless so far this campaign.
