Benfica moved to within four points of Portuguese Liga leaders Porto thanks to a narrow 1-0 win at Portimonense.

Javi Garcia tucked away the only goal of the match after 49 minutes as Benfica moved into second place behind Porto, who have a game in hand and take on Leiria on Monday night.

Struggling Sporting Lisbon left it late to secure a 1-0 win against bottom side Rio Ave. Fernando Abel popped up with the winner two minutes from time as Rio Ave were denied a notable point on the road against a Sporting side who won for only the third time in eight games this season.

Maritimo picked up their first win of the campaign at the expense of fellow strugglers Naval, Roberge Valentin with the only goal after 71 minutes. Elias Kanu saw red for Maritimo 11 minutes from the end.
