Anderlecht trimmed the gap on Belgian Jupiler League leaders Genk to five points after easing to a 2-0 win over Westerlo despite playing much of the match with only ten men.
Jan Polak's dismissal after 17 minutes appeared set to hand Westerlo the impetus to go on and claim all the points, but Anderlecht had other ideas and took the lead through Romelu Lukaku after 32 minutes.
Adnan Mravac's own goal 12 minutes from time sealed the win for Anderlecht, who make up ground on Genk after the pacesetters slipped to defeat against KV Kortrijk on Friday.
Standard Liege are in third place, a point behind Anderlecht, after claiming a key 2-1 win against fellow title chasers Gent. Standard profited from strikes either side of the interval from Mohammed Tchite (42) and Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez (46), while Gent lost Bernd Thijs to a red card on 54 minutes before Elimane Coulibaly bagged a consolation strike eight minutes from time. The result sees Gent drop from second to fourth, a point behind Standard.
Lokeren climbed to seventh place, just three points off second place, after Jeremy Taravel's 39th-minute goal secured a narrow 1-0 win over Club Brugge, for whom Vadis Odjija Ofoe saw red seven minutes from full time.
