Freiburg came from behind to win 2-1 and condemn Kaiserslautern to a fifth straight Bundesliga defeat at the Badenova-Stadion this afternoon.
Jan Moravek put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute only for Papiss Demba Cisse to level ten minutes before the break. And Stefan Reisinger completed the turnaround with the winner on the hour.
Srdjan Lakic saw his header hit the bar late on as Kaiserslautern almost snatched a point but Freiburg held on to climb to sixth.
Kaiserslautern got off to the best possible start as Ivo Ilicevic laid the ball off to Moravek to fire right-footed into the bottom corner from just inside the area. That was the only moment of promise in the first half for the visitors, though, as Freiburg quickly gained a foothold in the game.
Cisse headed wide from Julian Schuster's outswinging corner and Felix Bastians brought an excellent save out of goalkeeper Tobias Sippel with a fierce free-kick from 25 yards.
Bastians was involved when the equaliser arrived in the 35th minute, sending in a cross from the left which Cisse slotted home from close range.
Kaiserslautern won the second division title in impressive fashion last season but have struggled to find their feet in the top flight. And they went behind in the 60th minute, with the delivery of Bastians again key.
The left-back sent over another cross and this time substitute Reisinger was the beneficiary, slamming the ball into the roof of the net from the right side of the six-yard box.
Reisinger wasted two chances to get a second soon after as he twice shot wide of the far post from similar positions on the right of the area. Kaiserslautern came within a whisker of snatching a late leveller but Lakic's 80th-minute header hit the bar and went out.
