Nurnberg continued their up-and-down season with a home victory over Wolfsburg today.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 11th minute for Nurnberg but Grafite equalised for the visitors just before the half-hour. Mike Frantz hit the winning goal for Nurnberg in the 63rd minute as the Wolves saw their winless run extend to three games.

Nurnberg had the first chance after three minutes as Mehmet Ekici blasted over from eight yards. The hosts took the lead eight minutes later thanks to a mistake by the Wolfsburg defence with Julian Schieber poking the ball away from Makoto Hasebe to Gundogan, who fired home from 18 yards.

Wolfsburg's first clear-cut chance brought the equaliser after 29 minutes. Diego led a swift counter-attack and fed the ball to Marcel Schafer, who crossed for Grafite to fire a first-time effort beyond Raphael Schafer for his sixth goal of the season.

But Nurnberg regained the lead in fine fashion 18 minutes after the restart. Schieber worked his way past past three Wolfsburg defenders before finding Gundogan, whose pass was redirected by Frantz into the far corner. The hosts went close to making it 3-1 in the 77th minute when Schieber's header dropped just over the bar. Nurnberg again went close in the 90th minute but Simon Kjaer deflected Almog Cohen's shot just wide.

A thrilling finale followed, however, with Wolfsburg appearing to snatch a dramatic equaliser two minutes into stoppage time only for Grafite's to be ruled offside.
