Magath: I'm here until we win title
Schalke coach Felix Magath has no intention of jumping from a sinking ship and has told the club's fans he will stay until Die Konigsblauen win the Bundesliga.
Magath's side have made a disappointing start to the season, picking up just five points from their first eight league matches. They are currently in 16th spot rather than challenging for the title, but the coach is not thinking about throwing in the towel.
"I am staying here until we win the league," he told Sport1 television. Magath led Bayern Munich to the title twice and followed that up with a remarkable league win with Wolfsburg in 2009.
Schalke only narrowly missed out on the title last season with Magath at the helm and, after revolutionising his team in the summer, he believes a little time is all that is needed before they can challenge again.
"At the moment, we are playing like a team who is fighting relegation," he said. "Of course I am convinced that we will get out of danger, though.
"Not only have we revolutionised the playing staff, but also the system. We want to be more attack-minded and that has still got to be harmonised. If you want to be successful then you have got to take risks and we are just at the start of this revolution."
The arrival of Spanish legend Raul in the summer raised the expectation levels in Gelsenkirchen, but he has only found the back of the net once so far this season.
Nevertheless, Magath believes he was right to sign the former Real Madrid star and that he will eventually come good, along with the rest of his team. He said: "He is an icon - a world-class player. He is getting more and more dangerous and will score more goals."
