Cruzeiro moved to within a point of Campeonato leaders Fluminense with a 1-0 win at Goias.

Jonilson's own goal in the 55th minute earned the visitors all three points and left their opponents second bottom. Jorge Valdivia scored a brace as Palmeiras beat 10-man Avai 4-1.

The Chile forward twice gave the hosts the lead, opening the scoring in the 11th minute and restoring their lead in the 49th after Roberto had levelled nine minutes before half-time.

Avai were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Ze Carlos was sent off in the 55th minute and Kleber's penalty put Palmeiras two goals ahead three minutes later. Gabriel Silva completed the rout in the 69th minute.

Elsewhere, Flamengo beat struggling Atletico Goianiense 2-0. It took 75 minutes for Flamengo to make the breakthrough, substitute Val Baiano putting them in front six minutes after coming on.

Another substitute Diego Mauricio made the points safe with a second in the 85th minute.
