Iain Ramsay's stoppage-time strike secured a 2-1 win over champions Sydney at Sydney Football Stadium today as Adelaide United increased their lead at the top of the A-League standings.

Ramsay smashed home from close range to seal a sixth win of the season for the Reds that moved them six points clear of Brisbane Roar.

The defeat meant Sydney's woes continued as they remained rooted to the foot of the table with just four points and without a win this campaign.

I feel sorry for them because they needed the points and they were better, to be honest, and that's not good for us but we were happy that we scored the last goal of course.
Rini Coolen, Adelaide coach

Sydney had gone ahead after 40 minutes when Stephan Keller was fouled inside the area by Iain Fyfe and Alex Brosque converted the resulting penalty.

However, Adelaide equalised 12 minutes into the second half when Shannon Cole put through his own net when his back-pass left goalkeeper Liam Reddy wrongfooted.

Sydney looked to have done enough to take a point but Robert Cornthwaite fed a pass for Ramsay in the 91st minute and the midfielder struck to hand the points to Adelaide.

"I think they [Sydney] normally should win this game. They were much better than us," Adelaide coach Rini Coolen said.

"I feel sorry for them because they needed the points and they were better, to be honest, and that's not good for us but we were happy that we scored the last goal of course."
