Benfica leapfrogged Olhanense to settle into second place in Portugal's top tier thanks to a 1-0 win over Sporting Braga today. Carlos Martins goal after 73 minutes was enough to secure the result for the Eagles. Current leaders Porto will go nine points clear at the top if they beat Guimaraes tomorrow.

Elsewhere in Portugal, Nacional came from 1-0 down to beat Portimonense 3-1. Eduardo Jumisse opened the scoring after 31 minutes, but Claudemir levelled a minute later. Edgar Costa completed the turnaround after 74 minutes and Claudemir grabbed his second five minutes from time for Nacional, who had Luis Alberto sent off in the last minute.

Naval took an early lead against Pacos Ferreira when Joao Pedro's grabbed a 27th-minute goal. The second-half would prove less fruitful for the home side. Goals from Mario Rondon two minutes into the second-half and Nelson Oliveira three minutes later gave Pacos Ferreira a 2-1 win.

Lastly, the bottom-of-the-table clash between Rio Ave and Maritimo finished goalless.
