Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren praised striker Grafite for rounding off a perfect week after the Wolves picked up nine points from three Bundesliga games.

The Brazilian scored both goals in the midweek win over Hamburg and his next two goals were enough to see off Freiburg 2-1 yesterday.

"I am very happy with him and his reaction," said the Englishman.

I am very happy with him and his reaction. He has waited patiently and he made the difference.

The 31-year-old Grafite was a substitute in the Wolves' first three games of the season, but has not looked back since being restored to the starting XI.

"He has waited patiently and he made the difference," added McClaren of the 2009 Bundesliga top scorer. "Grafite has taken his chance."

The win lifted Wolfsburg up to sixth in the table, above champions Bayern Munich, and McClaren was happy with his side's team spirit after they were being written off only a week ago.

"The key to this win was our mentality," he said. "It was a tough game but, in the end, it was a very hard-earned but even more important victory.

"We know that we can play better and we have to play better, but my team showed character."

Wolfsburg travel to struggling Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend before hosting Bayer Leverkusen seven days later.
