Grafite scored two goals to lead Wolfsburg to their third straight Bundesliga victory this afternoon at the expense of Freiburg, finishing 2-1.
The Brazilian's 25th-minute opener was cancelled out by Papiss Demba Cisse, but Grafite found the back of the net again in the 64th minute - his fourth goal in the past two games - to secure the points for Steve McClaren's side. The win moved the 2009 Bundesliga champions into sixth place on nine points - above their visitors on goal difference - after starting the season with three straight losses.
Wolfsburg began brightly, with Andrea Barzagli's effort hitting the side-netting in the eighth minute. The hosts took the lead in the 25th minute thanks to some poor goalkeeping by Simon Pouplin, who allowed Grafite's header from Diego's free-kick to go through his arms.
Freiburg equalised 10 minutes later, however, after a goalmouth scramble. Simon Kjaer and Barzagli both cleared from virtually on the goal-line before Cisse finally blasted his shot in off the crossbar from six yards for his sixth goal of the season. Yacine Abdessadki sent a long-range attempt just wide of the far left post five minutes before the break as the visitors looked to go ahead.
Cisse missed a sitter six minutes into the second half after beating Wolfsburg's offside trap. Daniel Caligiuri found Cisse, who had an empty goal at his mercy but his shot glanced off the outside of the left post on its way wide.
Grafite rose high a minute later for a header but it went just wide of the far post. The Brazilian was on target again, however, in the 64th minute, heading home Diego's corner to make it 2-1. Freiburg pushed forward looking for a second equaliser but Wolfsburg's back-line held firm.
