Estudiantes squandered the chance to return to the top of the Apertura as they went down to a shock 2-1 defeat at All Boys on Sunday. Alejandro Sabella's side were looking to go back to the top of the table against the newly-promoted team from Buenos Aires.
However, Estudiantes were shocked by All Boys who went ahead through Eduardo Dominguez (28) before the visitors levelled on the stroke of half-time after a goal by Rodrigo Brana. All Boys had won twice before this season and they wrapped up their third victory four minutes after the break courtesy of Sebastian Grazzini.
Estudiantes are fourth, level on points with Banfield who are third on the slimmest of goal difference after a 4-0 win over bottom side Independiente. Independiente had a miserable afternoon as they finished the game with ten men after Gabriel Valles, who came on as a first-half substitute, was sent off for two yellow cards. Ruben Ramirez scored twice (3, 50) with Sebastian Ramiro (20) and Emilio Zayala (82) also on target.
River Plate also missed a chance to go to the top of the league when they went down to Newell's Old Boys. The Rosario side moved up to seventh, one behind their opponents, thanks to an 11th-minute goal by Ivan Borghello.
A hat-trick by Martin Palermo earned Boca Juniors a 3-1 victory over Colon Santa Fe. The visitors went ahead through Ivan Moreno and Fabianesi (42) before Palermo levelled on half-time. The former Argentina international then struck after 49 and 84 minutes as Boca claimed their third win of the season.
