Rubin Kazan needed a last-minute winner from substitute Gozdeniz Karadeniz to sink Anzhi Makhachkala in the Premier Liga today.
Rubin risked slipping five points behind unbeaten league leaders Zenit St Petersburg until the midfielder popped up late on to seal all three points, although they have played three games more than their rivals in any case.
In the day's other game, a dramatic finish to the first half led to a 1-1 draw between Tomsk and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Alan Gagatov gave the visitors the lead in the 40th minute but Artem Dzjuba equalised immediately for Tomsk, who then held firm despite playing almost half an hour with 10 men following Kim Nam-il's dismissal.
