Hercules confirm Trezeguet signing
Trezeguet will train with his new team-mates tomorrow morning before then undergoing a medical with the Alicante-based side, who are back in the top flight this season after an absence of 13 years.
If all goes well the 32-year-old hitman will be officially presented at 21:00 local time tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. Trezeguet left Juventus this weekend after a decade with the Italian superpowers, during which time he won four Serie A titles - not including the two that Juve were stripped of in the match-fixing scandal - and scored 171 goals.
Speaking earlier today after arriving in Alicante, Trezeguet revealed he would be fulfilling a dream by playing in Spain. "I wanted to know the Spanish league. For me it was an important objective in my career," the 1998 FIFA World Cup™ and UEFA EURO 2000 winner was quoted as saying by radio station Cope Alicante.
Of Hercules, he added: "I've seen a team with ambition who want to do things well. I'm very happy to be in Alicante and I'm going to complete a dream. After spending 10 years in a league like the Italian, having played at a club as important as Juventus, having won so many titles and being the leading foreign goalscorer of the team, this for me is a new adventure."
Hercules suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Athletic Bilbao in their opening Primera Division match, and their next fixture sees them make the daunting trip to champions Barcelona following the international break.
After that match Hercules have another tough game, at home to east coast neighbours Valencia. Trezeguet said: "We will see if I play or not against Barcelona, but I'm sure I will against Valencia, which is a game that Alicante has been waiting for a long time."
