Corinthians moved to within three points of Campeonato leaders Fluminense with a 2-1 win over Vitoria. Goals from Pedro Iarley and Joe Paulo Paulinho put the hosts two up before Joao Kleber Pereira's late consolation.

They made up ground after the leaders were held to a 2-2 draw by Sao Paulo. Former Chelsea midfielder Deco had put Fluminense ahead but Sao Paulo hit back through goals from goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni and Fernandao before Leandro Euzebio grabbed an equaliser. Fluminense had a great chance to win it but striker Washington failed to find the net with a 70th minute penalty.

Atletico Goianiense and Avai also shared four goals with Ribeiro Elias grabbing a brace for Atletico and Vandinho doing likewise for the visitors. Palmeiras came from a goal down to beat Atletico Mineiro 2-1. Santos Neto Berola had put Atletico ahead after 52 minutes but Marcos Assuncao and De Souza Kleber sealed the win for the away side.

Two goals in stoppage time saw Guarani beat Flamengo 2-1. The hosts had trailed to Narde Jean's 45th minute goal but Carneiro Ailson and Reinaldo Da Silva struck late to secure the three points. The day's other game saw Atletico Paranaense and Gremio play out a 1-1 draw.
