Robbie Fowler scored a last-gasp penalty to deny Melbourne Heart their first A-League victory as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

Heart have so far found life in their first season in Australia's top flight difficult, managing just one draw and two defeats in their first three matches.

They made the ideal start today, though, as Gerald Sibon scored from the spot in the fourth minute after Alex Terra had been brought down inside the area.

Glory equalised in the 19th minute when Michael Marrone chested the ball into his own net but Nick Kalmar restored Heart's advantage eight minutes before the break, firing home from Dean Heffernan's free-kick.

That goal looked like it would be enough to claim an historic first win for Heart, but Glory were awarded a penalty two minutes into stoppage time after Kliment Taseski was adjudged to have impeded Michael Baird in the box. Fowler stepped up to calmly convert the spot-kick for his first goal for the club.

The point was enough to nudge Perth Glory back to the top of the standings, level on points with Adelaide United but ahead on goal difference. Heart, meanwhile, are second from bottom with just two points.

In the day's other game, Melbourne Victory recorded their first win of the season with a 1-0 defeat of Gold Coast United at Skilled Park.

Robbie Kruse got the game's only goal in the 20th minute, latching onto a fine pass from Carlos Hernandez before rounding goalkeeper Glen Moss and rolling the ball into the empty net.

Victory climb up to fifth while Gold Coast are eighth and still searching for their first win of the campaign.
