Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff spoiled his son Yoann's Lyon debut, masterminding a 2-0 victory in Ligue 1 at the Stade du Moustoir.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who moved to the Stade Gerland from Bordeaux this week, came on after 30 minutes as a substitute for the injured Cesar Delgado, but by that time his side were already 1-0 down, courtesy of Kevin Gameiro's penalty. And it got worse for Lyon, who were left with just one win from their opening four games, as Lynel Kitambala grabbed a second on 65 minutes.
Toulouse eased to their fourth straight win at the start of the Ligue 1 season, after second-half goals from Etienne Capoue and Franck Tabanou gave them a 2-0 win over Nancy.
ASNL had the better of the first half and hit the crossbar shortly before the interval through Jordan Loties's header. But they were made to regret that near miss as TFC continued their imperious form and opened up an early four-point lead at the summit.
Dimitri Payet's hat-trick earned Saint-Etienne their second win of the fledgling campaign as they beat Lens 3-1, despite the late sending-off of Sylvain Marchal. The 23-year-old broke the deadlock early on and sealed the victory with two goals in the final 12 minutes. Marchal collected a needless second yellow with a minute remaining for pushing Issam Jemaa, who then pulled a stoppage-time goal back.
Brest, Rennes and Montpellier prevail
Two goals in five second-half minutes gave Brest their first win, 2-0 at fellow Ligue 1 new boys Caen. The hosts hamstrung themselves as Sambou Yatabare was dismissed for a dangerous tackle after 19 minutes. Nevertheless, the match looked set for a stalemate until Nolan Roux netted after after 75 minutes and Mario Licka notched from the penalty spot three minutes later.
Rennes continued their unbeaten run in the league with the narrow 1-0 victory over bottom club Arles. Victor Hugo Montano's 27th-minute goal ensured the visitors have now won both of their away matches, as well as a pair of home draws, to take them to eight points, while the unfortunate hosts remain rooted on zero.
Montpellier continued their strong start to the season as Olivier Giroud's first-half goal was enough to beat Valenciennes.
