Santos Laguna dropped their first points of the new Mexican Apertura season as they lost 1-0 at Tigres Monterrey. The leaders had won their opening four matches but were undone by Anselmo Juninho's eighth-minute strike.

Cruz Azul joined Santos Laguna on 12 points after Christian Gimenez's hat-trick inspired them to a 3-2 win at winless Jaguares. Gimenez opened the scoring in the 15th-minute but he had to come to his side's rescue after the visitors fell behind to goals from Jorge Rodriguez (29) and Andrade (49).

Reigning Apertura champions Toluca picked up their first win 1-0 at Atlas thanks to Antonio Naelson's last-minute strike.

Elsewhere, Atlante rallied from a goal down to beat Guadalajara 2-1. A stunning start to the game saw Guadalajara's Omar Bravo score and team-mate Edgar Mejia sent off in the opening minute. Atlante took four minutes to equalise through Nicolas Torres before Johan Fano's 36th-minute winner.

Daniel Arreola struck a last-minute equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw for Pachuca at home to Monterrey. The hosts had led through Dario Cvitanich (seven) before Monterrey hit back with second-half goals from Chile striker Humberto Suazo (68) and substitute Aldo De Nigris (78).
