Lowly Atlante picked up their first point of the Mexican Apertura season on Sunday in a 1-1 draw at high-flying Puebla.

It could have been even better for the visitors when Jeronimo Amione put them ahead six minutes into the second half, but Edgar Lugo restored parity for the hosts five minutes from time. Both teams were then reduced to ten men, with Rodrigo Salinas sent off for the home team and Edgar Solis' red card evening up the numbers.

The result moved Atlante above bottom-placed Tecos, while fourth-spotted Puebla passed up the chance to go level with second-placed Monterrey after four matches.

Sunday's other two games also finished 1-1. Fabricio Fuentes' equaliser just before the hour earned third-bottom Atlas a point at Club America, cancelling out Vicente Vuoso's early opener.

Tigres Monterrey needed a last-minute penalty from Batista Itamar to clinch a point at Toluca, Antonio Rios having put the defending champions ahead in the 61st minute.
