Santos Laguna maintained their 100 per cent start to the Mexican Apertura with a 1-0 home win over Jaguares. Christian Benitez bagged the only goal a minute after the interval to ensure his team stayed top thanks to their fourth win in as many matches.
Monterrey remained two points behind the leaders following their 5-2 victory at home to ten-man Pumas.
Goals from Leandro Augusto and Luis Fuente had put the visitors in the ascendancy after Humberto Suazo's early opener, but Sergio Santana levelled on the stroke of half-time and then the hosts ran away with it in the second period after the 48th-minute dismissal of Alejandro Palacios. Suazo's second put them ahead and further strikes from substitutes Osvaldo Martinez and Aldo De Nigris sealed the points.
Cruz Azul's 4-1 home win over Pachuca moved them up to third in the standings.
Javier Orozco Penuelas and Emanuel Villa were on target in the first half to put the home team in control, and Penuelas's second five minutes after the break gave them further breathing space. A Raul Martinez own goal stretched their advantage still further on the hour, with Edgar Benitez's penalty five minutes later of little consequence.
Finally, Wilmer Aguirre's goal 12 minutes after the break was enough to earn San Luis their first victory of the season - 1-0 over Morelia.
