Real Madrid defender Pepe has been ruled out for three weeks because of a calf injury.
The 27-year-old suffered the blow in Saturday's pre-season friendly against the Los Angeles Galaxy, which Madrid won 3-2.
Tests revealed a grade-two tear and Pepe is now doubtful for the start of the club's Primera Division campaign, which is set to begin on 29 August at Real Mallorca.
Pepe missed much of last season with a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, although he was part of Portugal's squad for this summer's 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
