Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon hopes Juventus can beat Manchester City to the signing of Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko.

Both clubs are keen to acquire the services of the 24-year-old, who recently expressed his wish to leave Die Wölfe this summer.

"Dzeko is a player that needs no introduction," Buffon told Tuttosport.

"For the past two or three years he has been among the best four or five strikers in Europe. He would be a great signing."

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international was the Bundesliga's top scorer last season, and is under contract with Wolfsburg until June 2013.
