Dutch international David Mendes da Silva has signed a three-year contract with Austrian league side Salzburg, the club announced Friday. The midfielder, 27, joins Salzburg from the Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar, with whom he won the Dutch title in 2009.

He was also part of Bert van Marwijk's provisional team for the FIFA World Cup™, but was ultimately dropped for the tournament in South Africa. Mendes will play his first game for his new club on Friday, a friendly against his former club.
