Jose Aurelio Gay has been rewarded for keeping Real Zaragoza in the Primera Division with a one-year contract extension.

Gay was the club's reserve-team coach when he was put in temporary charge of the senior side in December following the dismissal of Marcelino Garcia Toral.

Gay's first match resulted in a 6-0 defeat to Real Madrid, a result that left the promoted club second-bottom of the Primera Division standings with just 12 points from 15 games.

Despite that loss, the Zaragoza board decided to stick with Gay until the end of the season, and he led the club to a 14th-placed finish in La Liga, five points above the relegation zone.

Zaragoza have confirmed that Gay will remain in the hotseat for the 2010/11 campaign. Gay said: "For me it fulfils a dream, of being able to start a project with the team with whom I've been most happy, Real Zaragoza. As such I'm very pleased to have renewed my contract."
